This September, Oakville will once again be going to the dogs!

The Canadian Cancer Society is calling all dogs, dog owners and dog lovers to help "take a bite out of cancer" on Sunday, September 20 at Pilgrim's Park (1551 Pilgrim's Way) for the 2009 Paws for Hope trail walk-a-thon.

The fun will get underway at 9:30 a.m. with participant registration, a warm up with Vicki Sutkowski of "For the Love of Hope Dog Massage and Stretching" and a special ceremony to honour the life-long contribution of our canine caregivers.

At 10:00 a.m., cancer survivors and their canines will lead participants on a leisurely fall walk through the beautiful Glen Abbey trail system.

Following the walk, participants will return to the park for games, entertainment and activities for both dogs and their owners including contests such as Oakville's "largest and smallest dog", "best trick", "best bark" and "best look-a-like".

Clifford the Big Red Dog will also be on site for a special meet and greet with participants courtesy of Scholastic Canada.

Paws for Hope is a pledge based walk. Participants that raise a minimum of $25 in pledges will receive the Paws for Hope "doggie bag" which includes treats for the trails, water and clean up bags.

Participants that raise a minimum of $75 or more in pledges will receive their "doggie bag" plus an official Paws for Hope t-shirt for owners and a bandanna for dogs.

Please come with your friendly dog. Maximum of 2 dogs per adult participant. Each dog owner is responsible for his/her dog and for picking up his/her dog's poop. All dogs must be under control and on leashes at all times.
