Kait Bowser & Celeste, CWAC Service Dog Team: Torchbearers in Ottawa for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics
Canines With a Cause (CWAC) is proud and excited to announce that one of their clients, Kait Bowser accompanied by her certified CWAC Service Dog, Celeste, will be a torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics coming through Ottawa on the afternoon of Saturday, December 12, 2009. Having an assistance dog take part in the run to the Vancouver Olympics is a unique experience for Vancouver Olympic Committee. Participation in an Olympic torch relay has become a family tradition within the Bowser household, as Kait's father, Michael was a torchbearer during the 1988 Torch Relay for the Calgary Olympics when Kait was two weeks old! Kait will use her power wheelchair as she carries the torch, with Celeste at her side.
Celeste, a beautiful Standard Poodle, is a certified CWAC Mobility and Hearing Alert Assistance Dog. Celeste assists Kait at Carleton University where she makes life a bit easier by performing such tasks as opening doors and fetching dropped keys or wallet. Some of Celeste's other talents include fetching Kait’s shoes and helping her to get undressed by pulling her socks off. Celeste will bark if Kait needs help and lets her know if someone is calling her name, or if someone’s knocking at the door or if an alarm goes off. “Celeste is a tremendous help to me not only in the areas she was trained to assist me with but in other ways as well. I am much calmer and relaxed when she is with me, and she always seems to sense exactly when I need extra love. “ –says Kait.
Come out and cheer on Kait & Celeste on the Queen Elizabeth Drive (between Torrington Place and Lakeview Terrace) on December 12, 2009 at 4:05 PM.
