An Airline for Dogs & Cats only!

For all our American friends looking for a better way for their pooch to travel (via air), you’re in luck.

Pet Airways is a new airline for pets only! Yep, that means NO humans (except staff) allowed on board.

The world’s first pets-only airline, Pet Airways began taking ‘Pawsengers’ this past July. The airline flies out of 5 major cities in the U.S: New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver and LA, and may expand to other cities in the near future.

The company is Florida-based and began in 2005 when owners Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel relocated from San Francisco to Florida and didn’t like to put their Jack Russel Terrier, Zoe, in cargo. It took them 4 years to get it up and running as they had to organize the schedules, make sure they met all the regulations, designing the airplanes etc.

On this new pet-only airline, furry passengers will fly almost like their human friends complete with online booking, a check-in lounge, main cabin, and toilets on board just in case. All ‘pawsengers’ will, however, be given ‘bathroom’ breaks just before and after the flight (….read more)


The planes are similar to ‘human’ ones except the seats and overhead cabins are removed. Dogs and cats (kept separately) are put into pet carriers and securely fastened before the flight. While aboard the plane, a ‘pet attendant’ will check on each pet every 15 minutes.

Nervous about putting your furry friend on the plane by himself? Another cool feature is that you can go to their website and follow your dog’s travel progress on their ‘pet tracker’. We thought this sounded like a neat feature.

A one-way ticket on Pet Airways will run you between $149-$299.
