1. An honest evaluation of each canine member, you only go as fast as the slowest canine member.
a. Accept this
b. Make arrangements to add/replace dogs
2. An honest evaluation of last years training results. Example: Only trained one day a week and wasn’t competitive
a. Accept this and do the same
b. Make changes now.
3. Make equipment changes now. Examples: try new harnesses, make new lines etc. now. You really aren’t going to do it later and you don’t want to be adjusting to new equipment during events.
4. Take your most important event and calculate backwards. Example: Second weekend in Feb. so you want your dogs up to mileage four weeks ahead of time, then back down for speed increases.
5. Training schedules that over work (distances) decrease the dogs speed.
6. Training schedules that under work dogs result in hurt dogs.
7. Figure out you racing schedule so any major diet changes are six weeks in advance. (Takes the average dog gut this amount of time to maximize digestion to new diet)
8. Plan to try each dog in lead at least once on the cart when you have control.
9. Quit fibbing about speed and get a speedometer on you cart, also a good marital tool.
10. If you are over 20 but under 30 years of age, quit eating Twinkies now. If you are over 30 but under 40 years of age, you should have quit last August. If you are over 40, you shouldn’t be eating Twinkies. (It isn’t going to go away anymore.)
